BIKE RACK COMPETITION

Call for Proposals Phase One

Deadline for proposals: January 25, 2010

Georgia State's Institute of Public Health, Sociology, Recreation Center and Sculpture Departments invite students to submit a proposal for an artistic and functional bike rack to be placed on the GSU campus.

The use of bicycles for transportation is important to environmental improvement, public health and sustainable transportation. This competition to design and fabricate a unique bicycle rack will increase public awareness and promote art through functional sculpture.

Up to $500 will be available for materials and a $500 honorarium/ fabrication budget will be awarded for the selected work. All interested are encouraged to apply regardless of skill level.

Group submissions are welcome, as well as use of recycled materials.

Models are strongly encouraged.

Submitted models will be shown on this website and presented at the unveiling March 1, 2010.

EACH PROPOSAL MUST INCLUDE:

Resume and artist's statement

= Digital images of previous works if applicable

= Drawings and a written description of the bike rack

= Your contact information

Proposals must address safety, security, and bike rack functionality. The rack must be constructed for an urban environment. Assume a drunken 300-pound person will attack your bike rack and the rack must win.

Proposals due: January 25, 2010

Submit to Sculpture Office: 75 Piedmont Citizens Trust building, Suite 504.

The unveiling of the finished bike rack and submitted models will be March 1, 2010.
